My Great British Challenge...
Being a passionate supporter of homemade and home-grown produce, I have set myself the ultimate British challenge. Inspired by the need to support British producers in tough times, I am making it my mission to eat, make or find something British every day throughout 2015. And I will share my daily finds with you here. I first started my Challenge in 2013 but due to becoming pregnant, I thought it best to take a short break so that I could start again once I was able to eat all of those creamy British cheeses and amazing seafood. So, here we are again and I'm determined to see the year through!
I was brought up in a council flat in Lewisham, South East London, and I believe that British produce should be enjoyed by everyone – be it inner-city or country dwellers. It should also be affordable, and by 'eating the seasons' and buying products that are made in our own country, we should be buying cheaper, fresher and in-turn... better.
Ending on Thursday 31 December 2015, I'll be uncovering and sharing a wealth of British finds – 366, to be precise! I will be showing and making the products themselves and also sharing the stories behind them.
I'm in desperate need of your suggestions, comments and even constructive criticism! and If you're a UK business, then you're very welcome to get in touch and suggest your wares for me to try.
There are so many talented people out there producing British products – from food to fashion to film. I can’t wait to discover more about the history, seasons, processes and skills of British production. I hope, in some small way, my challenge will help the British economy to get back on its feet – and I hope that we'll all enjoy it too!
